PRO TIP OF THE WEEK Cold call coaches until they answer.
Want to know the biggest separator in recruiting? It’s not your exit velo. Not your Twitter highlight video.
It’s whether a coach remembers your name when they get off the phone.
Because here's the truth:
Most players are terrified to pick up the phone.
They hide behind DMs, emails, and "just hoping to be seen."
That’s why you’re invisible.
But when a coach hears your voice — when you speak clearly, confidently, and show you care —
you go from just another player… to a real recruit.
Why This Works:
Coaches aren’t scrolling emails all day.
They’re busy, and their inbox is flooded. But when the phone rings, they pick it up. And when a player has the guts to call? That sticks.
If they miss your call? They hear your voicemail.
If you follow up again? Now you’re consistent.
By the third time? You’ve already stood out more than 99% of kids.
And once they talk to you — even for 30 seconds — they’ll be watching when you play.
That’s how traction starts. Not with luck. With pressure.
How to Actually Do This:
-
Find the Coach’s Number
Go to the college’s baseball site → Staff Directory. Look for the Head Coach or Recruiting Coordinator. If it's not listed, call the athletic office and ask to be transferred. -
Know What You’re Going to Say
Have a 30-second intro ready. Your name, grad year, position, key stat (like 91 EV or 88 FB), and why their program stands out to you. -
Leave a Message
Be respectful. Clear. Confident. Say you’ll follow up again and thank them for their time. -
Follow Up Until They Answer
Not in a weird way. But consistently. Once a day, different times. Coaches respect persistence — that’s what they look for in players too.
The Bottom Line:
Coaches recruit players who take initiative.
If you wait for them to come find you, you're already behind.
Pick up the phone. Stand out. Be undeniable.
